Asao Shimura is a Japanese master/artist in paper-making living in Poking, Philippines. In August 2022, he organised a 5-day workshop where he and participants, including two Filipino young artists, explored traditional paper-making methods, their underlying philosophy and relationship with natural ingredients.
As a visual anthropologist and photographer, I followed all the workshops with a camera in order to document and visualise Asao's philosophy and complex universe of paper-making.
