牛丸 維人 / Masato Ushimaru
写真家・デザイン実践者。飛騨高山生まれ。オーフス大学（デンマーク）映像人類学修士課程修了。フィリピン北部高原地帯をフィールドに視覚障害当事者コミュニティによるケアと社会運動を捉えた映像人類学的プロジェクト『OUR CO-BLIND』は、スイスや米国、スペイン等で民族誌映画作品の上映、台湾や東京で写真展を開催。そのほかのプロジェクトに、デンマークでの自身の生活をオートエスノグラフィ的に記録した『FOG AND SUN』、フィリピン北部の伝統的な商習慣の根付くパブリックマーケットと資本主義の波の交錯を描いた『PUBLIC MARKET ARCHIVE』、飛騨高山の実家で亡き祖父が建てた小屋とその内部を撮影した『koya』など。映像人類学的なフィールドリサーチや共創的な制作プロセスに重きを置くプロジェクトを国内外で展開する。
Photographer and design doer. Born in Hida Takayama, Japan. Masato holds an MSc in Visual Anthropology from Aarhus University in Denmark. His primary visual anthropological project, “OUR CO-BLIND,” explores care and social movement of a visually impaired community in the northern highlands of the Philippines. The ethnographic film has been screened in Switzerland, the United States, and Spain, while related photography exhibitions have been held in Taiwan and Tokyo.
His other works include “FOG AND SUN,” an auto-ethnographic documentary of his own life in Denmark, and “PUBLIC MARKET ARCHIVE,” which depicts the intersection of capitalism and traditional trading customs in a public market in Northern Luzon. He also published “koya,” a photobook documenting the interior of a shed at his family home in Hida Takayama that has been used since his grandfather’s generation. Masato develops projects both in Japan and abroad, with a strong emphasis on visual anthropological fieldwork and collaborative research processes.
